Hello, everyone. Welcome. I am Abhilash from the marketing team at OpenAI, and I'm joined by Mina, one of our engineering leaders. Thank you for joining us today. We have, people from all over the world joining us today. So let us know in the chat where you are dialing in from. And since you're here today, you might be getting ready to launch your first ChatGPT ads campaign. Or you may already have been advertising with us and are looking ways to improve your approach. Either way, you're probably asking the same question. What should I focus on to set up my campaigns for success? So as with any advertising channel, having a strong foundation matters a lot. So today, we're gonna focus on five best practices that we encourage advertisers to prioritize. And Meena's gonna give us a lot of good demos to show how they look like in action. If you'd like to follow along when we're doing this, just scan the QR code on the left side and or visit ads.openai.com, and all eligible advertisers will receive an initial ad credit offer to help you get started. And don't worry if you miss the QR code. We're gonna show it at the end of the presentation. So here's what we'll walk you through today. We will start with a quick look on ChatGPD Ads as a new marketing channel and how we are putting AI at the center of it. And from there, walk you through five best practices that we think advertisers can do to make the best out of ChatGPT ads. And we will try and explain that through live demos that Meena is gonna walk you through. Alright. So a little bit of context on Charge ePT ads and what this makes, a channel, a great opportunity for marketers. I personally have been fortunate to see, few major technology shifts up close, whether it's mobile, social, or search. And one thing that's been consistent is when technology changes the consumer journey, advertising evolves along with it. And in ChatGPT Ads team, people are turning to it to ex help discover products, compare options, and make decisions. They come and explain what they want to accomplish. They explore possibilities, and they refine their choices through conversations with the ChatGPT Ads team. And for example, Meena and I, we both love music. I love Indian classical music and a bit of rock. Meena loves Egyptian music. And we both are very picky about the headphones we wanna use for each one of them. And Meena likes to block off distractions when he's coding. So he might go to ChatGPT Ads team and ask for noise cancelling headphones, but he might also say what is the budget and what is more comfortable for using it for long hours, and what works best for his Arabic music. So just as search and social created opportunities for new advertising platforms, we think conversational AI is creating another massive opportunity for advertisers and marketers. So we are building advertising experience around it with AI at the center and the heart of it and right from the get go. So we'll get more into what this means in practice in a bit. So you may be wondering what kinds of companies are a good fit for ChatGPT Ads team ads. Well, the truth is companies of all industries and sizes, as long as you meet these three criteria. One, you have to be live in the countries where Chargebee ads are available. We are now live in over 40 markets, and we're rapidly expanding to more international markets. For a complete list of countries, you can go to our help center and find you'll find all the information there, and it's evolving very, very fast. Advertisers also must meet the ads policy requirements. We allow almost all verticals, but a few like finance, health care, and legal. They require additional review. And some more sensitive verticals like gambling, alcohol, and more are not allowed. And finally, we will also verify whether your business is legitimate and that you sell clear, trustworthy products or services, which is quite important. And talking about businesses and who's getting success, advertisers across all industries and verticals are getting early success with our platform. And here are a few examples. Stream, which is a developer tooling company, we reported over 70% of the athletes are turning into website sessions. Jotform, they reported a lower cost per sign up. And the new ad, which is an online retailer, I'm sure you visited that for headphones. They are reporting three x return on ad spend, and in some cases, even seven x return on a seasonal campaign. And these are just a few examples of many thousands of advertisers who have come to the platform, and they're seeing early signs of success. So we say we're building an advertising platform with AI at the heart of it. What does that look like in practice? Meena, we got to show them what it looks like. Absolutely. So like Avi mentioned earlier, Avi and I are really into music. We really love good headphones, but we've really struggled to find good headphones in the market. So we've decided to start our own business and start our own headphones company. And so meet Nova One. Nova One is our fictitious headphone startup that Avi and I have started. You can see here on our Nova One website, we've got a bunch of different variations of headphones. We've got a bunch of different colors and choices and sizes that, you know, people can can pick from and choose from and they can add it to their cart and they can check out right here through our website. And so the obvious question is, cool, after Avi and I took the leap and decided to to embrace startup life, and and start this company, how do we get the word out that NOVA ONE sells the best headphones that you can find out there? And that's where ChatGPT comes in. And so, with ChatGPT Ads, you can go to ads.openai.com. You can log in with your existing ChatGPT account, or you can sign up for a ChatGPT account if you don't have one yet. And you'll be able to just put in your website into ads manager to get started. And so in our case, I took our Nova One website and straight out of the gate, what happens under the hood is ChatGPT has taken a look at our site, has understood our products, has understood what what what products and services we offer, and has come up with a recommendation for the first ad that we can start, that we can start publishing on ChatGPT Ads team. And so in this case, you know, it picked up on build for focus, balanced sound with an all day comfort in Nova One, which is kinda cool. And as with everything that we do here at OpenAI, AI is there to help you, and it's there to help you be successful, but you are fundamentally in control. And so even though, Chad has, you know, picked this particular creative and this particular tagline, I always have the option to review my campaign. I can edit any of the ad creatives or any of the campaign, you know, settings. But for now, let's say this all looks good, and let's get started. Next, you'll end up giving us a little bit more about your business, and so you'll need to name your account. And so let's say, cool. NovaOne is our business name. We are in The United States. We happen to be on the West Coast, so Pacific Time works for us, and USD is our currency. So cool. You can see the promotion that Avi mentioned there at at the top with, you know, being able to spend 500 and get 500, which is amazing. Great. And then, next, I'll be asked for, billing information. You do have to give us your billing information before your ads can actually serve. Otherwise, your your account won't actually serve any ads. But for now, let's skip that and go straight into ads manager. And so within a few seconds, I think we were able to get started, obviously. Yeah. I was looking at the time. It just took literally less than thirty seconds. That is incredible. That's brilliant, Meena. So what Meena shared is just one example of, how we're bringing AI into the advertising experience, and we will show you a lot more as we go through the demo today. In fact, for business owners, the biggest barrier to advertising isn't whether they want to do it. It's finding the time to learn another platform and building campaigns and ads that are optimized for that new platform. And that's why we're putting AI at the center of this experience. We want them to spend more time growing their business rather than trying to learn a new platform. So with that in mind, I wanna talk about the best practices that we think advertisers should adopt to get to the, the best success for your campaigns. So, we will talk about five best practices today, and, we'll go through each one of them in detail. But here's a recap. First, set up your conversions measurement. This is fundamental. Get your foundations right for your measurement. Second, give campaigns enough room to learn. So have the right campaign strategy so that they have enough room to learn. Third one is optimizing the for the outcomes that really matter to your business. And then if you are an ecommerce customer or an advertiser with a lot of products, connect your product feed. And then the last one is use ChatGPT Ads team as your AI marketing partner to help create and manage campaigns. So let's work through each one of them. Let's start with conversion measurement. You probably know this already. Getting your measurement foundation is fundamental to having a successful ad campaign. So we recommend setting your conversion signals to measure and optimize against the business outcomes you care about. That is super important. Now as you would already know, conversion signals connect ad engagement to the outcomes that matter to your business. And that outcome could be a purchase or a sign up or a lead submission. And that connection is important for two reasons. One, it helps you measure whether the channel is driving meaningful results. And two, they give the system the information it needs to improve the performance over time. And you can do it in two ways. You probably already know this, but one is to connect your website activity using Pixel, or the other is to connect your back end directly using what we call conversion API or CAPI. And our recommended setup is to use CAPI and Pixel together. This gives you a complete conversion coverage while events reported can be detailed. And and in our early data with advertisers, we're seeing that advertisers have used this together. They're seeing about a 69% median increase in conversion coverage, than with pixel alone. And we're also seeing a 22% lower median measured CPA. So we've covered quite a bit on the measurement foundation. Meena, why don't we show how we set this up for our shop? Yeah. Love it. And so going back to our, you know, Nova shop, the key conversion that we're gonna talk about that we care about is fundamentally purchases because we care a lot about people placing orders for our headphones. And so back in Ads Manager, if you go under tools and click on the conversions tab, this is where you can set up your pixel and copy events as Scott as Abby mentioned earlier. And so I'm going to create a data source, call it my first pixel. And straight out of the gate, what you'll get is a pixel ID and some setup code. And this is the setup code that you would embed in your website's HTML head to get started preferably somewhere at the top so that you can set up the the pixel for your page. Hopefully, you've got a great relationship between your your marketers and your engineers or your IT, you know, support for for your website. And so, hopefully, this is a is a breeze to be able to to add this little snippet to your HTML head, but this is how you get started at with with the actual setup. And then next, you can create the actual event. So like I mentioned, what we really care about is is purchases, which in our world translates to orders being created. And so order created is the base event. We'll call this order created. And what this is now doing under the hood is it's creating the pixel and the the copy event that will end up firing, And it'll give us a little bit of sample code for what we would then embed into our website on the front end or on, in our services on the back end. And so here is the pixel event call that we can then make from our website front end. This is what would fire from the front end anytime that somebody places an order. And on the conversions API tab, here you'll see the actual conversions call that you can make to share the same order created event. One thing to keep in mind for folks that are looking to set this up is in order for you to actually send us these conversion events, you do need a specific type of API key, and you can create that here to create a conversion API key, that you can then pass in as the authorization for your conversion API request. And there's I I've given you a lot of information here, but there's also a lot of documentation that we have on our website for how to set these up properly. And so if you click on this little icon here, that will take you to our measurement pixel, you know, documentation, and you can see all of the different fields that you can pass in on the pixel as well as on the the server side event to make sure that we are, able to deduplicate across both and that we are able to match and attribute your events correctly. The other thing that is also cool about these conversion events, is you can also set them up using codex. And so here where we showed the code earlier, you can also click this little button here to set them up using codex, which I think is a little nice touch. And then you can use the event stream here to be able to see the events coming in. And once you have the events coming in, back on the data source tab, you'll see this column start populating with, EQS, which is essentially our, event quality score. And so, obviously, you know, using Pixel and CAPI together, as Avi mentioned, is really important as a first step, but the quality of the events you send also really matter. And so the event quality score rates your eligible data sources from one to 10 and helps you identify gaps such as missing identifiers, delayed events, or any duplicates that you might be sending us. You'll see warnings right there in the portal, and so review those, address any issues, you can fix any signal gaps, and you can monitor improvements. As you improve the website, come back to, you know, the tools conversions tab so that you can ensure that the quality of your events is improving and regular regularly check on the event quality to ensure that you've got the right foundation for measurement and optimization. So now that the engineer has set up conversion signals, now the real question is, hey, back to the marketer, how do we actually think about our campaign strategy for getting the word out? Yeah. And don't forget to thank your engineer. That is so important for anything to be successful. So yeah. So it's time to build our campaigns. Our next set of best practices really focus on how to structure your campaigns so they have enough room to learn and optimize effectively. The principle here is really fewer, better funded campaigns. So you have to consolidate your campaigns wherever it makes sense. If there are multiple campaigns that you're running and they all have the same objective, the same budget strategy, they're part of the same geography or schedule and so on, just avoid separating them unnecessarily. You don't get brownie points for having a large number of campaigns. So consolidating them into fewer campaigns concentrates your budget and gives your campaign more room to ramp and learn. For example, if you have a total budget of a 100,000, allocating 50,000 to two campaigns is much better than spreading it over 10 campaigns. And we also recommend to use auto bidding. And Meena will show this to you, but you've got an option called maximize results. And if that feature is enabled, the system will take care of the bidding, and you just don't have to check your insights every single day and start optimizing every single day. And the next, tip is really around optimizing for what matters the most and to you. Once your campaigns are structured, you have to make sure that you're picking the right outcomes that you're optimizing for. And as you know, you can optimize for reach. You can optimize for clicks. You can also optimize for conversions. And within conversions, you can optimize for clicks or you can optimize build up for objectives build on impressions. While you can choose from all these objectives, our recommendation is that you go with the conversion objective that is built on impressions. This allows the system to learn from conversions that follow both ad clicks and eligible ad views. So let's look at why this distinction matters. So people don't always click on an ad and just convert immediately. Some click and purchase directly, while others see the ad, research elsewhere, and return later on maybe even another device. So a conversion objective build on clicks learns only from click through conversions, While conversion optimization build on impressions learns from both click through and eligible view through conversions, and it provides a more complete signal for optimization. And many view through conversions happen very quickly. This is really interesting. In our analysis, 52% of eligible one day view through conversions occurred within the first hour after the matched impression. So this highlights why view through conversions are an important part of, of setting up your conversions. And to capture that, you need to optimize for conversions that are built on impressions. So we've covered campaign strategy, and we've covered how to optimize for conversions. Now it's time to put into practice. Mira, we have the account is created. The measurement is set up. Let's bring the marketer in you. Yeah. Totally. So now I'm gonna put on my performance marketer hat, and go back into ads manager. And if I click on the campaigns tab, this is where you can see all of your campaigns and where you can create campaigns. And one thing that I'll just call out straight out of the bat is we actually have a lot of different ways that you can create campaigns in the system for ChatGPT Ads. We have APIs that you can use to create and manage your campaigns. And if you wanna learn more about the documentation for those, you can click on your ad account, click on documentation. That will take you to our developer documentation, including all of our advertiser API. So you can use those to create and manage your ad your your campaigns. You can also, bulk upload campaigns to us using a template and an Excel file, or you can go through the wizard, which is what I will be demoing now. And so if you go through the campaign wizard, like Avi mentioned earlier, the thing that we care about for our start up is we care about orders created, we care about purchases, we really want to drive purchases of our headphones. So let's call this our purchase campaign. You can see here the objective, which is, we're optimizing for conversions. We can pick the order created conversion event, which is, you know, the conversion event that we created earlier. We're billing on impressions. And one thing that I will just call out is we are, you know, we're constantly, trying to find new ways to help you grow your business and to build better ads using AI. And so like Abhi mentioned, we're really trying to put AI at the center of your marketing journey. And so this is a feature that we're still testing out and rolling out. But inside of creative settings, you you'll you might see creative text optimization. And keeping that on essentially allows ChatGPT Ads team to both translate your ads to match the language that people are having a conversation with chat, in and also personalize your ads. And so let's say for our headphones, you know, our marketing is you know, our marketing creatives might be focused on noise cancellation, but not specifically call out gaming as a use case. But if a gamer comes to ChatGPT and asks for what are the best gaming headphones out there, ChatGPT will be able to then tailor our ad creative to personalize our messaging to to resonate most with that gamer, which is pretty cool. On ad groups, like Avi was mentioning earlier, while you can set up your manual max bid, what we really recommend is for you to maximize your results as as your bidding strategy. And what that tells the system to do is essentially try to get as many of the events that you're optimizing for given the budget that you've allocated towards this campaign. So in this particular case, I have a budget for this campaign. I care a lot about purchases. I just want the system to get me as many purchases as possible given this budget that I've allocated. And then finally, we can specify our ads where I can statically specify, you know, our headline description, maybe upload some images, for the actual ad creative. But again, this is another area where we're starting to experiment with finding ways for AI to help you throughout your marketing journey. And so you'll see here that ChatGPT is actually recommending a few creatives given what it knows about our business and about our website. And so taking a look here, build your NOVA one, choose a metal finish and a cushion color. Okay. I kinda like that one. 48 ways to make it. I don't know how I feel about that one. Let's regenerate and create some more ads. And so, again, this is another example of a case where even though we're using AI to try to help you through your marketing journey, you're always in control. So you get to review what you want in terms of the creatives, and you always are in control of what you actually end up publishing. And so, yeah, sound and balance That sounds cool. Balanced every day, listening your way. I don't like that one. So let's add that one to our campaign. And then finally, you get to review your campaign. You get to review your budget, your your optimization strategy, your bidding strategy. You can see the ad creatives, and you can get started. So, yeah, just with a few clicks, you can create a campaign that, you know, AI helped you, you know, generate the creatives for, which I think is kinda cool. But in our case, as a headphones company, we sell tens of headphones with hundreds of different variations. And so trying to create, you know, an ad for every single one of those variations is gonna be a lot of work. Yep. And that's where product feed ads really comes in. Absolutely. And if you're an ecommerce player and have a lot of products with a lot of information like ours, you should connect your product feed directly into Ads Manager. And connecting a product feed into Chargebee ads is important for three reasons. One, you obviously connect your product to purchase intent, and so you can show the product specific ads. Second one, it allows you to create ads at scale. So instead of building an individual ad for every single item, your product feed data can cover thousands of product specific ads automatically. And finally, it keeps the product information fresh. And this is critical. You might be changing the price, or you might be changing the description and all that stuff. You don't have to keep going and editing for hundreds of different, variants. So product feeds provide, a scalable way to turn your existing catalog into beautiful ads. And this works. Beyond just simplifying the campaign creation, we're also observing that stronger engagement among campaigns actively delivering product feed ads. And across our eligible cohorts of advertisers, active product feed delivery was associated with about a 34 74% higher observed click through rates compared with campaigns that did not have a product feed ad. And so, Meena, as you said, our headphone business is growing. We have so many variants, so many colors, so many prices. Why don't you connect our product feed? Yeah. Love it. Let's go through it. And so going back into Ads Manager, under tools, there's a feeds tab. This is where you get to set up your feeds. Again, similar to conversions, there's lots of different ways, for for you to to learn about, how to set up feeds correctly, and there's a lot of good documentation on our on our help center. So if you click on that icon, you'll be able to see all of our documentation for product feeds. So let's get started with a product feed. There's a few different ways that you could send us a product feed. You can either work with, you know, your technical team to create an SFTP connection. You can host a URL. Or in our case, I happen to have a CSV of all of our headphone catalog, and so let me set it up as a CSV. And let me pick my CSV real quick. And what you'll see here is, you know, you can see the samples of the rows. You can see all the different fields. And, again, there's a lot of information here. Take a look at our documentation so that you can make sure that you're sending us the right fields for your products to make sure that they're always up to date. And so now once I upload that CSV, that's updated our product catalog for us, and I can create a campaign directly from here for that product. And so let's call this our headphones campaign. And a few things that I'll call out, you'll notice that the campaign type switched to product feed instead of standard. You'll see the headphones product feed is selected, but you can still optimize for the same things as with standard, campaigns. And so you'll see here that we're optimizing on conversions, and we can pick the order created conversion event, build on impressions because as with, you know, our standard campaigns, what we really care about is driving purchases with these product feed apps. You'll also see the same bid strategy. And so, again, we'll keep that as maximized results. And then finally, the one thing that is worth calling out here is that unlike, static ads or standard ads where you get to specify the title and the image and the description, In this particular case, you can tell us which field contains your product image, but we're gonna pull all the information from your product feed. And this is really, nifty because it essentially means that every one of the product variants in your catalog now becomes a candidate ad in the system for this campaign. And so you don't need to create each one by itself. You can just have one product ad and it will create all of the variants based off of all of the products in your feed. Cool. And then as with everything, you can review your ad and publish that here. Now another thing is, in our case with Nova, we also happen to be a Shopify merchant. And so if I flip over here to my store on Shopify, you'll notice that I've also created a catalog on Shopify that has all of our products. And if you happen to be a Shopify merchant, we also have another way for you to integrate with Chat GPT Ads that will make your life a little bit easier. We have published a Chat GPT Ads app, which you can find on the Shopify App Store. And if you install that app to your Shopify account, you can then connect your Ads Manager account to your Shopify account. And this is where you'll see that we're actually doing this live, because you're gonna see me log in, as part of this flow. So let me go in to here. While Nina is doing that, why don't you guys let us know what your favorite music is and any features you wanna see in our headphones. We're we're continuing our r and d work on this one. Oh, yeah. Totally. And I I don't know if there's any Egyptians on the call, but Egyptian music or Indian music? I don't know. Maybe you should have a a little dance off. Yeah. Literally a dance off. Literally a dance off is the way that is the way to do it. And so what you'll see here on the screen is once I connect my ChatGPT Ads team account to my Shopify account, not only will this make it easier for me to bring in my Shopify catalog straight into my Ads Manager ad account as a product feed, It will also, so let me pick my another one ad account that we just created earlier. It will also, allow me to connect all of the Shopify events as conversion events in ads manager, literally with a couple of clicks. And so after connecting my account, under the hood, this is going in and connecting my product feed. And you can see here, I'm gonna create a new pixel specifically for Shopify. And once that pixel gets created and we connect the systems together there you go. What's happening under the hood here is Shopify the Shopify ChatGPT app is, configuring our ad account to be able to receive all of the events from Shopify as well as the product feed from Shopify. And so if we go back into ads manager, now that we've connected our account, you'll remember here we had created our headphones, our headphones product feed. If I refresh real quick, you'll actually see the Shopify catalog now show up. And so all of your products from Shopify will get automatically ingested into this product feed, and will be kept up to date as you make changes in Shopify, which is pretty cool. And then also, if I go to the conversions tab, what you'll also see is that OpenAI pixel for Shopify that got created and all of the conversion events that Shopify can send us, including anytime that somebody adds something to a cart or purchases and creates the order, all of those are now events from Shopify that are showing up inside of ads manager. And just like our other conversion events that we created directly in ads manager, you can now create campaigns that are optimizing for any of these conversion events. This is this is great. You have to go back and forth and update your catalog and update your ad and then change it again and again. This is brilliant. Exactly. Yeah. But, you know, now that we've gotten set up, there has to be another way as well for how we can scale our ads. And especially if I'm not necessarily, like, an e com, you know, advertiser, if I don't have a product feed, or if I, you know, don't necessarily if I'm not a Shopify merchant. What are some of the other ways that we could scale our ads, Avi? Yeah. Well, we're OpenAI. We've got to use ChatGPT. Yeah? So we have an amazing way, which I think is really magical, to do all of these within ChatGPT. All you need to do is install our ChatGPT Ads Manager plug in. And what this allows you to do is use your natural language to create campaigns, manage them, measure them, all within ChatGPT. So to get this, you just need to search for this plug in on the plug in section of ChatGPT, install it, and start chatting. You can also scan this QR code to do that. And, if you wanna do it live with us, we we can show you too. So you just scan the QR code, and then Meena's gonna walk us through how he does it, in in ChatGPT. Yeah. This is, this for me is one of the most exciting parts of the platform. It's a great example of how we're reimagining advertising with AI while still keeping you in control. And so you'll remember our NovaOne website, that we had before. We can, you know, where we set up our conversion pixels and everything else, we can take that URL, we can go into ChatGPT, and we can tag our ChatGPT Ads Manager to help get us started with an ad for NovaOne. And, again, what's happening here under the hood is similar to what happened with Ads Manager, ChatGPT is going off and understanding our website, understanding our business, coming up with recommendations for ads that would be best suited to represent our business, and match to commercial intent on on ChatGPT as well. And so here you'll see that, you know, Chad's drafted, you know, a a recommendation for me. It has a recommended image. I think that looks good. So let me confirm that. And after I confirm the image, it'll give me a preview of the ad. And so you can see here's a draft preview of the ad and, you know, giving me an idea of what it's going to go look like, which is great because that way I can actually, you know, go back and forth on it if I want to. But this looks good to me. So now I can ask Chad to show me the complete setup, and Chad will give me the entire campaign structure That's cool. Which is pretty cool. And, as with everything, you're in control. So I'm gonna approve this after I've reviewed it to say, yep, this looks good. Create that ad for me. And chat, under the hood, will create that campaign for me in ads manager, and I'll be able to see it there just like all of our other campaigns that we create in Ads Manager directly. I love the tagline. It's like find your focus. Yeah. I love that. And it'll give me a link to open it in Ads Manager as well. Now let's say a couple of weeks have gone by, and now I wanna check-in on how our ads are doing. I can go back into chat. I can ask the ChatGPT Ads team Manager plug in, how are my Nova One ads doing? And under the hood, it'll go look up the insights for our ad campaigns. It'll look at all of the various data. It'll try to come up with interesting insights and interesting trends, to to really understand the performance of our campaigns. And so here you'll see your world, your focus, actually is our top performing ad here. It has a 4.8% CTR. It's doing much better than our other ones. And so I can even ask chat, like, why is it doing better? Right? And, you know, and and, like, what are some hypotheses for for for why it's doing better compared to the other one? And, you know, obviously, it's got a better CTR, it's got better return on that spend, but, you know, Chad maybe, you know, Chad's interpretation is it actually communicates a clearer benefit.
